The Board of Pardons and Paroles was established in 1939. It provides for the issuance of pardons and paroles, restorations of civil and political rights, and remissions of fines and forefeitures. The board also provides investigative and supervisory services to the courts having adult probationary powers. (Alabama Government Manual, p. 390 [1982]). This series consists of correspondence created during routine activities of the Board of Pardons and Paroles. Documents in the files include correspondence regarding the purchase of equipment, information about conference attendance and hotel reservations, requests for copies of rules and regulations, transmittal letters, letters of thanks and invitations from the governor to the chairman of the board for breakfast.
